AB OBJECTIVE: We investigated about blocking effects of FK506 for apoptotic
cell death induced by HIV-gp120. METHODS: Normal human PBL were cultured
with gp120, at 12 hours intervals, anti-TCR antibodies were added to the
culture. Cell viabilities were measured by trypan blue uptakes. To
investigate blocking effects of FK506 for cell death, FK506 added to
cultures. RESULTS: Cell death was induced by the presence of gp120
followed by signaling through the TCR. FK506 could inhibit this
apoptotic cell death in a dose dependent manner of FK506. DISCUSSION:
Apoptotic cell death is known to play an important role for the decline
of CD4+ cell death in HIV infection. FK506 could inhibit gp120 induced
cell death. This suggest that FK506 has potential as one of the anti-HIV
agent for delay of AIDS expression.
